The big power rack restock day could be as quickly as today so lets compare the PR-4000 and PR-5000. Maybe you’ve already made up your mind on the rack you want in the perfect color for your home gym with your ideal configuration and your accessories already planned. If you’re just here for potential release rumors or stock notification resources, you’re not in the wrong place. Rumor is the restock might be today and tracking has shown most Rep Fitness drops happen around 5:30 pm EST. But if you want a further leg up check out www.repstockalerts.com to get set up with an alert containing a direct link to the rack the moment there is inventory and some tips to maximize your chance of getting the rack you want.
But if you’re still deciding between the PR-5000 and PR-4000 here is some facts that might help you make your big decision.
- Cost – The charts from Reps current sites are below. They give you a good visual representation of your options and what the total cost would be. If you look the base models there is a $234 difference. Once you add 4 weight horns and the extra pair of uprights the difference is $426 or $192 additional difference over the base difference (the weight horns for the 5000 are $39 and $49 and the weight horns for the 4000 are $20 and $25 for a combined $66 difference). This trend of slightly more expensive accessories makes sense because the 5000 uses 1 inch holes and hence 1 inch beefy hardware. Lets skip ahead, the biggest cost difference is in the fully loaded versions with the difference being $615. Another way to think about it is the cost difference is about 20%-25% which can be considered when thinking about potential future attachments and accessories as well. Cost isn’t the only factor, but this round certainly goes to the PR-4000.
- Rack heights and depths – This is a quick comparison. Currently they are both offered in 80″ or 93″ heights (Tie) and they are both offered in 30″ and 41″ depths but the PR-4000 also has the narrow 24″ option. If you want a narrow rack for space reasons the winner is the PR-4000 otherwise it’s a draw. Unless you have space restrictions height and depth options shouldn’t impact your selection.
- Hole numbering and spacing – Both racks contain 4 sided holes, however because the size of the holes is different the spacing is also different. The PR-5000 has 1″ holes throughout and 2″ spacing throughout with laser cut number in single digit increments. The PR-4000 has 5/8″ holes and 2″ hole spacing, but has 1″ hole spacing between the benching area, and every 5 hole numbering. Rep created a solution with completely different J-Cups for the PR-5000 with their V2 Lowered J-Cups to turn 2″ hole spacing into 1″ spacing with the way they sit on the rack. Between the spacing and the numbering this could go either way based on personal preference.
- Last is appearance – This again will be preference. The PR-5000 has a much larger name plate, more color options, bigger hardware and more hole numbering. Some might prefer the look of the smaller name plate on the PR-4000, the slightly smaller hardware and every 5th hole numbering combining to create what some would call a cleaner look. This again depends on personal preference.
Overall it’s going to come down to price and preference over the differences in holes, hardware, spacing and appearance. Either way the functionality will be the same. Both use 3″ x 3″ 11 gauge steel and have the same attachments and accessories from Rep. If you have any questions DM @repstockalerts an best of luck with your power rack purchase!
